We propose a combination of double series and integrals for calculating the elastic stresses in smooth isotropic thin-walled shells. The rapidly attentuating component of the stress is represented by Fourier integrals, which are taken in closed form or which have a simple asymptotic form. The penetrating component is described by double trigonometric series. In contrast to the customary use of integral transforms, conversion to a continuous spectrum is performed not in the entire double trigonometric series, but in an artificially isolated part of it that is generated by the differential operator of a shallow sphere. In the series describing panels of arbitrary Gaussian curvature, therefore, terms corresponding to a spherical panel are singled out.
