Coal gasification to synthesis gas requires reactions at temperatures higher than 1100 degree C. The authors investigated the melting behavior of coal ash at these temperatures. It is shown that CaO additions increase the melting point of coal ash while Fe//2O//3 decreases the liquid slag viscosity of the ash.
