Batch quantities are becoming smaller because the number of product variants is increasing. This calls for flexible design systems in metalworking in order to cope with the rapidly changing production requirements within an acceptable time and cost framework. CAD systems are therefore necessarily the first step towards manufacturing automation. As part of Sigraph-CAD, a three-dimensional sheet metal design package has been produced which expands the range of computer aided design to include the sheet metalworking industry.
