摘要
Shortage of scrap metal is observed. However, the scrap can be replaced by liquid cast iron during steel production in electric arc furnace. Large amount of the cast iron can be provided. Utilization of the cast iron leads to electric energy saving because heat of the cast iron can be used. Time of the smelting process in electric arc furnace is reduced. Quality of produced steel is improved because low contents of impurities in the cast iron are observed. However, disadvantages connected with the use of the cast iron are noted. Cost of cast iron is higher than that of scrap metal. Capital costs are required for creation of additional equipment. Specific conditions should be taken into account at each plant.
