摘要：

The mechanism of secondary compression in soils is described in terms of changes in soil structure. Instant and delayed compression are parts of a continuous process of volume change, and for normally consolidated natural soils, the coefficient of secondary compression and compression index correlate with each other. The composition and physico-chemical-environment determine the compressibility of the soil.
