This paper is concerned with the energy utilization potential due to the increase in waste tonnage, particularly from municipal, commericial and industrial sources. Domestic refuse is also assessed, particularly regarding the decline in paper products. The Control of Pollution Act of 1972 in the United Kingdom is cited as the control on waste disposal practices in that country. Pyrolysis and gasification methods are reviewed.
