Safe operations and information of the passengers were previously achieved by means of stationary displays and conventional telephone equipment. In recent years, various systems for information and communication and for automating operations have been installed or prepared for introduction on the premises of Berlin Underground. The article describes the mode of operation of these systems, their combined performance and their benefits for the passengers in terms of higher safety, improved information and more service. In addition, the article focuses on the preparations for an electronic fare management, the video monitoring systems and automatic operation of underground railways.
