Prospects for the electricity supply industry in Finland

Electricity demand per inhabitant is unusually high because of the industrial structure, the high standard of living and the geographical position of Finland in the far North. The safe and economic availability of electricity is therefore a foundation stone for the future of industry and the quality of life for the country. The future prospects for nuclear energy are at the present time uncertain and therefore medium-term plans have to rely on conventional forms of energy. Part of the capacity demand can be met by the construction of appropriately dimensioned heating power plants in the cities. In addition, coal-fired condensing power plants have to be built. At the present time plans for these are being developed by the electricity suppliers.
