The basic circuits for HVdc converter control in present schemes are supplemented by additional circuitry in order to achieve many other objectives. A newly developed computer controller not only permits software adjustments and modifications to the basic functions for normal firing angle control, but also has sufficient computing capability to accommodate extra functions via software only without the need for additional circuitry.
