Modern rolling mills for hot and cold strip are largely automated, being equipped with complex instrumentation to determine product parameters. Process control and quality surveillance are interlinked via measurement and test systems. So far only a few of the event-describing and process-connected variables have been continuously measured during the process. Developments in this field are underway.
