An ad hoc network is the cooperative engagement of a collection of wireless mobile nodes. In this paper we describe a mechanism that allows the construction of such an ad hoc network and provides continuous Internet access to the entire ad hoc network. Connectivity within our ad hoc environment is provided by operating each mobile node as a specialized router. Internetworking the whole ad hoc network in the Internet is provided by adaptation of the Mobile IP protocol so that a foreign agent can service a mobile node even if the latter is not within the communication range of the former. Further, we make use of a route manager to coordinate the operations by the routing and mobile IP daemons on kernel's routing table. We also discuss some practical issues encountered in the course of a real implementation.
