A short survey is given of the general methods of environmental protection techniques in the pulp industry. The applications of these techniques are exemplified by a thorough description of two kraft mills at Munksjo AB in Sweden. The description includes pulping in a completely closed liquor system, treatment of condensates, systems for handling temporary discharges, chemical treatment of wastewater in a clarifier, sludge handling, and cross recovery.
