Optical lenses are manufactured predominantly by injection compression molding; the molds therefore have a mechanically or hydraulically operated punch device. The shaping surfaces require special attention since their accuracy of shape and surface quality have a deciding influence on the lens quality. In addition to steel application of glass ceramic materials as punch materials, which provide favorable cooling characteristics for the molding are described.
