The paper deals with how ultrasonic vibrations can be employed in various manufacturing processes. The surface effect and the volume effect of ultrasonic energy make it possible to obtain a gain in reduction of static forces, increased rate of processing, elimination of some processing steps and improved quality of surface finish in various manufacturing processes, such as extrusion, rolling and drawing of tubes, rods and wires. The self- cleaning power of ultrasonic vibration simplifies and economizes to processes such as welding, soldering, wire- drawing etc. Ultrasonic vibration makes it possible to machine hard materialsuch as stainless steels, carbides, glass etc. Ultrasonic energy is widely used in nondestructive testing of cracks, slag inclusions and other defects. It has a wide field of application in plastic industry. Other than in manufacturing, it has a bright scope in biological application also.
