The VCR (Versatile Conflat Reefer) is a reefer container ship with portable decks which, if necessary, allow the transportation of conventional refrigerated cargo. This article discusses future demands on the reefer trade, the design of a VCR, loading a VCR, and includes a cost comparison between a conventional ship and a VCR.
