This paper presents the major technology and programmatic issues concerning the use of Dynamic Isotope Power Systems (DIPS) for future space applications. It is based, in part, upon the analyses and assessments made in carrying out the Phase I Nuclear Power Supply Study. It also includes a brief, preliminary assessment of survivability issues and discusses the need for tradeoff studies to compare DIPS to solar array/battery sytems.
