Reduction was carried out at 550 to 850 degree C and oxidation at 60 to 600 degree C. The structure was dependent on the temperature at which it was reduced and had an influence on the rate and extent of oxidation. Three transition temperatures are indicators of changes in oxidation behaviour. The concept of a 'triggering' mechanism initiating catastrophic oxidation in heaps has been explored.
