The control system is an integral part of the switched-star network. It comprises a network of processors providing management facilities and interactive customer services. The management facilities consist of maintenance functions for network control, performance monitoring and fault recovery, and administration functions for handling status and accounting details of customers and program providers. Operators access these facilities through terminals at the head-end. The interactive customer services are based on display facilities for text, combined picture-and-text, and video. This part 2 of the series describes the functions, physical and software structures, principle of operations of interactive and management services, current states and future trends.
