The outlook for using comparatively new types of supports-electromagnetic bearing (MB) has been considered. A task set and solutions suggested are given with the outlook of using controlled synchronized electric motors of power in the range from several to dozens of megawatts with speed of 20000 rounds per minute and control level of up to 50%. An algorithm for the development of an installation based on MB with the set level of reliability and an algorithm for the assembly of MB have been suggested. A conclusion has been made that the mentioned motors cannot be developed without the use of magnetic supports. Estimations show that their reliability parameters in particular average operational time to first failure, service life, the coefficient of technical utilization, the probability of the successful start up of a drive enable the installation to function with high effectiveness.
