First-pass design for liners is similar to full-string casing design. In both cases, the method of production, rate of production, nature of produced fluids, workover possibilities, number of strings and availability of tubulars and bits all have a place in the selection process. After determining overall requirements of the wellbore and selecting first-pass casing ODs and IDs, the next consideration is whether to replace a full string with a liner. A discussion is presented of full-string designs, sources of trouble, an example liner design and things that can go wrong. Collapse, burst and tension designs are outlined.
