In 1969 the European ″50 Hz working group″ received an order from the Korean National Railroad (KNR) for electrification (25 kV, 60 Hz) of altogether 350 km of the Jung-Ang, Tae-Baek and Yeong-Dong lines. These lines supply most of the coal and cement to Seoul. Participation of several firms in the project and particular solutions adopted are described.
