The precipitation of niobium carbonitrides (NbX) was studied in welded joints of four different types of Nb-microalloyed steels. It has been found that the increase of strength properties is directly related with the coherent NbX precipitates; maximum hardness is attributed to these precipitates of minimum size of similar 1 nm.
