The theoretical capacity of a mining machine and to an even higher degree that of a mining system may differ widely from the effective output of the machine or system. For the obtained effective output not only reveals the performance of a machine, but also depends on its integration into an operating and mining system and finally on the external operating conditions and planning data. This integration may have different characteristics for different machines and systems. In the American mining industry, the 'degrees of availability and utilization' are known which in the majority of cases are applied when assessing a machine or operation.
