The article, dealing with nuclear fusion, gives first an outline of the principle of operation, i. e. , fusion of two light nuclei. The involved reactions, the necessity to achieve very high temperatures - typically between 50 and 100. 10**6 degree C - and the role of the plasma and its techniques of confinement are then discussed. Finally, some recent tokamak projects are described.
