This article describes research work done recently to determine the effect of reduction ratio on the internal quality and mechanical properties of the steel plates fabricated from continuously cast steel slabs. The authors examined the upper limit of plate thickness required to produce steel plates of satisfactory intermal quality and mechanical properties from 250 mm thick, continuously cast steel slabs as produced by the continuous slab caster at the Fukuyama Works of Nippon Kokan, of Japan. Results of this investigation are discussed.
