摘要
The brightening time of a laser-produced air plasma is investigated. This is the time required to reach a certain transparency level in the plasma burst after a laser pulse has struck an opaque target. The brightening time is found as a function of the energy E of the laser pulse, the probing wavelength lambda and the density rho of the ambient medium. The calculations take into account in an approximate way the most important of the processes which determine the development and decay of the plasma in the case of two-dimensional motion. The calculated and experimental results agree satisfactorily.
