Results are presented of a theoretical and experimental study of the distribution and evaporation of tantalum in tungsten during the electron beam zone melting. The equilibrium distribution coefficient of tantalum in tungsten k//0 equals 0. 808 5 was calculated from the W-Ta binary diagram. The effective distribution coefficient k//e//f equals 0. 830 was determined experimentally using the frozen zone method. For the given experimental conditions, the tantalum evaporation coefficient in zone refining of tungsten was determined to be g equals 0. 21. 9 refs.
