CONTINUOUS HAULAGE METHODS DESIGNED TO KEEP CONTINUOUS MINING CONTINUOUS.

The task of bringing continuous face haulage to the continuous miner remains a continuing problem in most underground mines. In recent years, the concept of mobile bridge systems has evolved, and last year alone, 185 bridge conveyors constituting key portions of those continuous haulage systems were delivered to US mines. This system is comprised basically of two or more bridge conveyors joined together by a mobile bridge carrier. Other face haulage methods now being tested are reviewed, and new developments in main haulage are examined. A new electronic method which enables the electrical machinery of a mine and the environmental conditions underground to be controlled and monitored from a central point is also described, and the problems of hydraulic transportation underground are examined.
