KHD Humboldt Wedag AG has developed a new method of comminution by which special roller presses can be used to grind particularly hard brittle materials such as cement clinker or granulated blastfurnace slag, limestone or silica sand with a saving of energy. With this new KHD-GESS process KHD-Grinding Energy Saving System) it has been possible, among other things, to show a saving in specific energy of up to 30% when compared with traditional methods of grinding. This article describes the process and the results of its application.
