摘要
This paper examines how the various energy demands of an industrially based community may be met with coal as the principal energy source. The integration of domestic, commercial and industrial energy supplies by combined heat and power systems will complicate what in previous years has been a more separate competitive development. The pattern of energy usage is traced for industrial furnaces and boilers, for medium size commercial heating and process steam, and for the widely distributed domestic and transport fuel demands. Major influences which will affect this pattern are the increasing pressure for desulfurization, prevention of nitrogen oxide formation, and the environmental and safety requirements curbing the development of nuclear power generation. During the whole of the period under review the sharply increasing cost of fossil fuels will encourage the development of natural alternative sources such as wind and wave power, solar energy and tidal energy recovery.
