To minimize costs, engineers have devised new methods of assembling pipelines on land and pulling them into position in a dredged trench. Innovative techniques have been developed for installation in excess of that possible by flexural bending. In the last three years major crossings using multiple 48, 54, and 66-inch diameter steel pipe and a single 78-inch diameter steel pipe have been installed.
