Recently, the dryer cylinder of paper machine tends towards large-scale and high pressure obviously. In this article, a typical Φ3600 × 3150 mm cast iron dryer, which is just being developed and will break through the limit pressure 0.8 MPa of the cast iron pressure vessel, is analyzed by finite element method. The dangerous stress zone is described in the contour graph and the cause of stress distribution is discussed. Some general suggestions on how to decrease the stress level are put forward. The method of FEA is very useful to such dryers design.
