Cleaner Production: Government policies and strategies

Policy interventions in the future could bring about increased (and accelerated) adoption of Cleaner Production. A brief overview of major policy instruments in use or under development is presented. Generally speaking, policy instruments belong to one of three groups: regulatory (administrative or directive-based); economic (incentive-based); or informative (information-based). In practice these types of instruments are likely to be combined rather than applied in isolation. Decision-makers can profit from greater knowledge of how such instruments have been applied in other countries.
