The problem of estimating an unknown number of signals in a multi-channel processing system after detection and noncoherent accumulation is examined. An estimate is made for both amplitude and binary data after threshold comparison. The number of channels are estimated by multichannel noncoherent processing (after binary quantization as well) using the maximum-likelihood method (ML) and the RMS error method (RMSE) in the discussion. This estimate is produced both in the case of known and unknown noise power.
