Plastic Metal Working by Simple Shear.

Requirements with respect to the structure-forming processes of plastic deformation are formulated. It is shown that uniform deformation by simple shear corresponds to a certain optimality criterion. The mechanics of the process of forcing a rigid-plastic material through two intersecting channels of equal cross-section, during which single shear deformation takes place is investigated. Specific features of the processes of structure formation using simple shear and technological advantages of the appropriate deformation schemes are noted. The possibililty of attaining anomalously high strength and plastic properties of metals by simple-shear strain hardening is established.
