摘要
A study has been made of the microstructure and hardness of two alloy white cast irons - A and B - in both as-cast and heat-treated condition. Alloy A contained 3. 13%C, 1. 68%Si, 0. 16%S, 7. 45%Cr and 1. 98%Mn and alloy B had the same composition as A with the addition of 1%Cu. The as-cast microstructure of alloy A consisted of pearlite plus carbide and that of alloy B, carbide plus martensite plus a small amount of pearlite. In alloy A, the as-cast hardness of 675 Vhn initially decreased to 565 Vhn and then increased with austenitizing temperature (holding time 3 hr) to a peak value of 725 Vhn on austenitizing at 900C (1652F). In alloy B, the peak hardness was higher than that in A and was observed at 850C (1562F). Holding alloy A at different lengths of time at 900C (1652F) resulted in a increase in the hardness in as-cast condition to a peak value of 778 Vhn attained in 5 hr.
