on the basis of a literature review supplemented by new experimental data, and taking the effect of recrystallization on formability into consideration, an equation is derived for the effect of thermodynamic deformation conditions on formability as determined in torsion tests. The validity of the equation was checked on a variety of steels for deformation rates of 10**-**3 to 10**1/sec.
