摘要
This article is devoted to a study of the structures and ( gamma yields alpha ) transformation temperatures of constructional nickel steels of various compositions after quenching over a wide range of cooling rates, including those needed to produce the lower martensitic stage. Low-carbon constructional steels (up to 0. 4-0. 45% C) undergo two stages of martensitic transformation at very high cooling rates. The lower martensite structure is morphologically different from the upper type in having very large alpha -phase crystals, sometimes exhibiting twinning, and being completely free from residual austenite. The hypothesis is put forward that the upper martensite obtained during the commercial quenching of many constructional steels is really a product of rapid bainitic transformation.
