On combustion plants with a furnace heat output of more than 50 MW (thermal) the gaseous and dust emissions have to be continuously controlled to comply with the rigidly prescribed methodology of the Inspection Authority at specific intervals of time. Using, as an example, the large bituminous coal-fired 550 MW (electrical output) unit No. 7 at Rheinhafen Steam Power Station in Karlsruhe (Badenwerk Company) the array of measuring instrumentation installed since 1984 is described.
