CO2 Reaction Rates with Diethanolamine.

Reaction rates of CO//2 with aqueous solutions of diethanolamine were determined with laboratory wetted-wall column, in a large range of DEA concentration (between 0. 05 and 4 kmoles m** minus **3) and of temperature (from 20 degree C to 60 degree C with a pitch of 10 degree C). The results obtained show that total reaction order is 2, that is to say 1 with respect to CO//2 and 1 with respect to amine. Kinetic constant k//A//m varies with temperature according to the relation which renders an account of experimental results within 3%. The proposed interpretation is that the kinetically limiting step is the reaction of CO//2 with amine to form carbamic acid, this one being then totaly and immediately ionized.
