Single beam dispersive IR photoacoustic spectrometers (PAS) constructed from a Parkin-Elmer Model 421 bed and Model 421 or 621 interchange were used to examine solids. They worked well enough over the 4000-800 cm** minus **1 range to produce spectra of surface species, inorganic, organic, and transparent powders which are useful for chemical analytical purposes. In general, it is possible to construct an IR-PAS system, perhaps with some difficulty but not with insurmountable expense, and dispersive IR-PAS can be a useful analytical tool.
