Hertel AG, Fuerth, West Germany, has developed a computerized system that designs, quotes and maufactures custom cutting tools. The design and machining programs for the tool are generated on a CAD/CAM system that uses as its starting point a print of the work-piece specifying the required hole or machined feature. It then designs the tool, produces drawings of it, quotes prices based on order quantities and provides a proposed delivery data in about 15 minutes.
