The author describes the massive hydraulic fracture technique's first successful application in East Texas, which brought a Cotton Valley gas well from 210 Mcdf to 1600 Mcdf. The eightfold production increase was achieved by fracturing the well with a half-million gal of fluid and almost a million lb of proppant, following 82 days of flow testing.
