The various aspects of an agreement between Compact Power and Qinetiq for developing a shipboard recycling units are discussed. Bristol-based Compact Power has patented a process to convert everyday waste materials into reusable stream energy. Under the agreement, Compact Power will work on designing a smaller unit suitable for use on ships, oil rigs and other marine installations, which currently use thermal incineration to dispose of their waste. The company use a combination of pyrolysis, gasification and high temperature oxidation to treat waste material. The endorsement of Compact Power's system by Qinetiq, Europe's largest technology development organization, has encouraged the Bristol firm.
