Not long ago, an electrical enclosure was little more than a plain box selected from a catalog. If any modifications were needed, a print was generated and the box was customized. Color was no problem provided it was battleship gray. Electrical and electronic enclosures are no longer just gray steel boxes. The modular approach now permits custom cabinets with little cost penalty. This paper describes the modular approach used in the manufacturing of electronic enclosures. Highlights are presented of various designs done by some manufacturers.
