摘要
Spontaneous combustion of coal leading to fire has always been a problem in coal mines, in power houses, coal cargoes or wherever coal is stored. The authors studied the relationship between peripheral oxygen groups or the functional oxygen groups in coals and their proneness to auto-oxidation. The other properties of coal which are easy to determine are the volatile matter and fuel ratio. Volatile matter is mostly the aliphatic structures in coal. Fuel ratio is the ratio of fixed carbon to volatile matter or the ratio of aromatic structure to aliphatic structures. Several Indian coals were selected for the study. Their proneness to auto-oxidation was determined by the crossing-point method.
