Previous work at NEL has revealed that by monitoring rope properties, including stiffness and elongation, good test results can be distinguished from bad test results. This early work was carried out using a general purpose data logger which was not ideally suited for cyclic loading conditions. This report describes control and data acquisition systems that have been produced at NEL specifically for monitoring the changes in rope properties which take place in a fatigue test.
