Requirements for a new computer peripheral system utilizing semiconductor modules are reviewed with a view to lowering cable and connection costs, improving availability and flexibility in its use. A solution is proposed which is based on a decentralized setup. By means of timely relevant specification of a few still free parameters it is expected to cover the widest possible range of application in the detection and presentation of operational and process data.
