EDMONSTON PUMPING PLANT. NATION'S MIGHTIEST.

The A. D. Edmonston Pumping Plant described is reported to have the largest combination of lift and capacity in the U. S. Its 14 vertical four-stage pumps have 4,410-cfs capacity against 1,926 ft of static head. Each pump has an 80,000-hp motor. Two identical 35,000-hp motor-generator sets are used to increase speed during starting. The 48-in. double-seated spherical discharge valves are controlled automatically for optimum starting and shutdown. Two 8,400-ft steel-lined discharge tunnels were designed to share load with the rock.
