Some problems are considered in the theory and design of electromagnetic shields for a plane-meridian excitation magnetic field; they are of practical significance in the development of a design method for electric-energy devices with attenuated field in the external region. In particular, a determination has been made of the distribution of the linear current density at the surface of idealized diamagnetic shields; an estimate is given for the weight-energy characteristics of active shields; a combination shield has been investigated that consists of a ferromagnetic wall and a diamagnetic half-space.
